BRT System‧Leading Political and Economical Movements of Tainan

The first High Speed Rail in Taiwan is going to start the operation in 2005. Tainan (Shalun) Station is located on the southern boundary of Tainan. Passengers who live in the north of Zengwun River have to take trains at Taibao Station in Chiayi County. Mr. Huan-Jhih Su, the Tainan County Magistrate, considered that it was not convenient; thus, he proposed Tainan Downtown BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) Networks Project, Sinying Bus Transfering Center Project, and Tainan Urban Area Light Rail Transit (LRT) Prior Route Project. Through the convenient and economical public transportation system, the High Speed Rail Station can be more accessible.

Connecting Taiwan Railway and High Speed Rail‧Bringing the Efficiency of Local Public Traffic Network

BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) is a public transportation system to unite related highways (National Expressway No.1, The roads beneath High Speed Rail (HSR) Viaducts, National Expressway No.8, and Tai-18th Highway) connect High Speed Rail Station (Shalun Station), Great Tainan Area, and Tainan Science-based Industrial Park. This traffic network has an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) with a shape “目” which combines exclusive bus lanes and signal priority systems. The price of installation and the construction period is reasonable. This system combining with High Speed Rail (HSR) offers a great performance to the people who live in Great Tainan Area. Mr. Si-Kun You, the former Taiwan Premier, granted the financial assistants to this project. Ministry of Transportation And Communications and Public Construction Commission also granted NT$ 2,900,000 to manage the feasibility study and pre-construction planning held by the private corporations. This is a model project for the national public transportation system.

As soon as BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) is completed, the passengers can take the buses and small shuttles which will become the main transportation between High Speed Rail Station (Shalun Station) and Tainan Science-based Industrial Park instead of driving. This system can also combine with taxies to offer the convenient and economical services with high quality. It will enhance the efficiency of the public traffic network between Taiwan Railway and High Speed Rail.

Passenger Traffic Transferring Center Offers Convenient Transition‧BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) Offers the Best Services to Make the High Speed Rail Station more Accessible

The stations where the passengers take the buses to northern Taiwan are mainly located on Madou Interchange and Sinying Interchange with a distance away from the downtown area. Therefore, Mr. Huan-Jhih Su, the Tainan County Magistrate, planed to set up Sinying Passenger Traffic Transferring Center which combines the services offered by local bus corporations in Sinying and Singnan in Tainan with the services offered by Ho-Hsin Bus Traffic Co., Ltd, UBus Traffic Co., Ltd, and Kuo-Kuang Motor Transport Company Ltd. This center can provide the bus rapid transit route between Sinying City and Taibao Station in Chiayi County. This route is not only to increase the operating revenue for the bus companies, but also to shorten the traffic time of passengers who live in the north of Zengwun River.

In order to match up the verification of Ministry of Transportation And Communications, Tainan County Government had completed the bid of Tainan County Passenger Traffic/ Freight Traffic Transferring Center in the Areas near Freeways Project. Tainan County Government also strives for including this project in the project- Challenge 2008 ─Local Public Traffic Network Planning and Development of Ministry of Transportation And Communications.

The long term project of the Southern Taiwan Traffic Network is necessary for balancing the development in both Southern Taiwan and Northern Taiwan. BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) is a key to enhance the performance of public traffic network. It connects the residential area and commercial / industrial area. As soon as BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) is completed, Tainan County will have the advantages as an international city.
