Minutes of Tainan City Government’s 526th Municipal Administrative Meeting 1/19/2022

Mayor’s Remarks:
Although this is the second to last municipal meeting before the start of Lunar New Year, we must remain vigilant about our work prior to and during the holidays. Concerned bureaus must be fully prepared for situations that may arise during the Lunar New Year holiday. To ensure that we are prepared for unexpected scenarios, it is imperative that communication and command mechanisms are mapped out beforehand. I expect municipal operations to be fully on track by the time we come back to work on February 7. Let's ensure that municipal work is carried out smoothly without interruption.
Announcements
1.    The Bureau of Transportation and the Police Department’s report on plans to ease traffic congestion during the 2022 Lunar New Year holiday (refer to written sources for details)
Decision: Approved for reference filing
(1)     Tainan City is a favorite destination for tourists. At the same time, traffic jams are often at the center of complaints by residents. With Lunar New Year around the corner, an influx of visitors and traffic is expected. We must ensure that epidemic prevention work is carried out to prevent outbreaks. As for traffic problems, we should do our best to alleviate this pain point and inconvenience for residents. I ask the Bureau of Transportation and the Police Department to work together and address this issue.
(2)     Smart surveillance equipment has been established this year. I encourage concerned departments to utilize this new tool when needed. Please also ensure the flexible deployment of volunteer police officers and traffic police. Let’s work together to provide residents with a safe, comfortable, and convenient Lunar New Year holiday.

2.    The Cultural Affairs Bureau’s report on the 2022 Yuejin Port Lantern Festival (refer to written sources for details)
Decision: Approved for reference filing
Mayor’s Remarks:
(1)     Festivals can be held as usual as long as epidemic prevention measures are followed. Therefore, implementing proper epidemic prevention measures is very important. Staff must keep personal safety in mind when reminding visitors to wear masks.
(2)     I suggest that the community patrol or volunteer police officers in Yanshuei District help with maintaining order at the event site alongside municipal personnel. Please always work in teams to ensure safety.
(3)     This year's festival is the largest ever in scope and in scale. It takes about two hours to do a complete tour. Thus, it is necessary to set up porta-potties and maintain the cleanliness of the venue. Concerned bureaus should pay extra attention to these issues.
