Go-ahead for Major Projects, Set to Boost Local Development and Bring Tainan’s City Vision Nearer to Reality

Major projects for constructing the Greater Tainan Expo & Convention Center and the Tainan Museum of Fine Arts have recently and successively gained approval and financial support from the Executive Yuan. As Tainan residents look forward to the fruition of these projects with eager anticipation, the exciting vision for the city’s future moves two strides closer to reality.

On August 3, the Executive Yuan gave approval to plans for construction of the Greater Tainan Expo & Convention Center, proposed for location at a site near to the Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) Tainan Station. This project is currently in the preliminary design phase, and its environmental impact assessment (EIA) is in progress. Set to become a world-class landmark, the center will be a model of environmentally friendly features and smart functions, offering a superlative exhibition and conference venue for green industries, serving as a showcase of local capabilities in the green energy, high-tech and agricultural sectors, and providing a platform for communication, connection and collaboration among industries in southern Taiwan.

Since Tainan was the first capital of Taiwan, it ought to have its own art museum. The Tainan Museum of Fine Arts, now already under construction, will meet this need. It is being built on a pair of sites in the vicinity of the Confucius Cultural Zone, one of which will house modern art and the other contemporary art. Integrating local features into its design, Tainan Museum of Fine Arts is a new form of architectural space which is different from other metropolitan museums. As a “green” art museum, it will fulfill multiple purposes for Tainan residents and visitors. As well as housing exhibitions of local art and culture, it will also serve educational purposes and be a hub for tourism, leisure and recreational activities. Tainan Museum of Fine Arts will soon to be an important venue for the development of art and culture in our city.
