WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup Kicks Off: Mexican Representative Martin Torres Cheers on Athletes in Tainan

Mexican Representative to Taiwan Mr. Martin Torres traveled to Tainan on July 26 with his wife and stayed in the city for two days to show their support for the young Mexican athletes who were competing in the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup that kicked off this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Torres watched the match between Mexico and Italy, which was held at Shanhua Baseball Field on July 26. Mexico won the game (1:0). They also went to Tainan Asia-Pacific International Baseball Stadium the next day to watch the match between Mexico and Venezuela in which Mexico won again (10:6). The couple happily cheered on their team along with excited spectators and students from the Mexican team's hosting school - Denan Elementary School.
Representative Torres explained that baseball is very popular in Mexico. He enjoys the sport very much, and when he was the same age as the young athletes, he played as the team's catcher. Torres was very excited to see that Tainan can provide such a well-equipped competition venue, and remarked that it is one of the best he has ever seen. He hopes Tainan can win permanent hosting rights for the U-12 Baseball World Cup and hold every edition at the Tainan Asia-Pacific International Baseball Stadium.
Mrs. Celina Torres said this is their fifth visit to Tainan, and every visit is unique. Prior to this event, she had attended the Taiwan International Orchid Show and Tainan International Dragon Boat Championships with her husband, and is delighted to come to Tainan again this time for the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup. Mrs. Torres’ friends in Kaohsiung traveled to Tainan to teach the Denan Elementary School students how to cheer on the athletes in Spanish. The stadium was filled with excited chants of "¡Ánimo Mexico!" during the game.
After the match, Mr. and Mrs. Torres went to congratulate the young players and encouraged them to keep up with the hard work and compete in higher level games in the future. If their schedule allows, the couple hopes to visit Tainan again next week to show their support for the Mexican team.
