The “2021 Tainan is Young” Christmas and New Year's Eve Festivities Series has kicked off in Tainan. Dutch singer Martin Hurkens performed at T.S. Mall on December 25, bringing soothing, positive energy to the public who feel frustrated during the pandemic with his warm voice. Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che was also present at the concert.
The Mayor commented that Hurkens’ moving voice is rich with emotions. He thanked the singer for his wonderful performance and for comforting the public after such a difficult year. Hurkens said that he is happy to return to Tainan and enjoy the hospitality and culture of the city once more.
Huang Wei-che pointed out that although the pandemic is still ongoing, this outdoor event does not threaten public health since the audience all abode to epidemic prevention measures and wore face masks throughout the performance. He wished everyone a safe and healthy Christmas, and Hurkens joy and success after he returns to the Netherlands. The Major also offered best wishes for the opening of the new T.S. Mall A2 Building.
In addition to singing Christmas songs with the students choirs from Wunyuan and Madou Elementary Schools, Martin Hurkens also sang classics such as “The Rose”, “You Raise Me Up”, and Teresa Teng’s “The Moon Represents My Heart”. The audience responded enthusiastically, singing along and waving their lighted phones to create a shining sea of light.
