The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) and the Ministry of Education (MOE) announced that schools at all levels and public and private kindergartens nationwide will suspend face-to-face classes from May 19 to 28. In addition, educational institutions such as after-school care service centers and cram schools will also suspend classes.
In terms of hardware facilities for distance learning, Tainan’s Bureau of Education has asked all schools to offer devices and support for students in need, so that every student can continue to learn from home. For students who do not have internet access, the Bureau of Education has prepared 5,000 wireless cards. Alternatively, schools can provide a safe learning space for students to go to school and use on-campus internet. These measures are to facilitate self-directed learning for every student.
In terms of learning content and software, the Bureau of Education has established an on-line learning hub (http://www2.tn.edu.tw/hlearning/) that offers both real-time learning resources (public live streaming courses), and non-real-time learning resources (provided by the three major text-book publishers and the five main micro-curriculums). The one-stop learning resource hub provides convenience and accessibility for all students to continue their education while staying safe and healthy.
The public live streaming courses are scheduled to broadcast online on May 20. In addition, teachers can also use the platform to offer their own courses for real-time distant learning.
For preschool and kindergarten children, the Bureau of Education is also curating suitable educational and play resources to offer them on the designated website.
