2.5-million Doses of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccines Are Timely Rain, Lauded Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che (2021/06/21)

The US-donated 2.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccines arrived in Taiwan today (20th). Many people have hopes for the Moderna vaccines, and Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che hails this shipment as timely rain for Taiwan's vaccination drive. Mayor Huang also urges the public to follow the vaccination priority list announced by the central government. It will still take a few days for these Moderna vaccines to be ready.

"Whoever is on the priority list should go and get vaccinated at the earliest possible," said the Mayor. Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che hails these Moderna vaccines from the United States under expedited delivery as timely rain. These recent vaccine donations reflect strong Taiwan-Japan and Taiwan-US friendship. Tainan City hopes that once these Moderna vaccines are unpacked and ready, these vaccines can start to be used following immediately after the AZ vaccines from Japan.

Mayor Huang emphasizes that this shipment of 2.5 million doses of Moderna vaccine will enable Taiwan’s vaccination plan to proceed smoothly. The Mayor also urges the elderly and all qualified citizens to quickly get their jab. Vaccination is a race against time and does not wait for people. Tainan is working hard to increase its vaccination rate.

Mayor Huang is grateful for the fact that we can start the vaccination process here in Tainan City as a resulf of great support from the United States, Japan, and other friendly nations. Mayor Huang would like to especially express gratitude to Taiwanese envoys Chang-ting Hsieh and Bi-khim Hsiao for working so hard for the public health of everyone in Taiwan. Finally, the Mayor also thanks all the staff at Taiwan's Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) for their efforts.
