India Taipei Association Director General Mr. Gourangalal Das and Deputy Director General Mr. Dhananjay Singh Yadav visited Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che on Jan. 5. Department of Information and International Relations Director-general Su En-en was also present. The parties talked about potential interaction opportunities between Tainan and India.
Mayor Huang Wei-che first thanked Mr. and Mrs. Gourangalal Das for attending the Taiwan International Orchid Show opening ceremony last March (2022) and pointed out that one in every six orchids seen around the world is from Tainan. The thriving orchids symbolize the blossoming freedom and democracy throughout the world as well as the strong friendship between Taiwan and our international allies. Huang also mentioned that the International Orchid Show this year (2023) will be grander and more impressive. He cordially invited Director General Das to come to Tainan and enjoy the beautiful flowers.
Mayor Huang expressed that Tainan is Taiwan’s oldest city and Cultural Capital. He looks forward to having more in-depth interactions with India, which is home to an ancient civilization, to make Tainan’s culture more diverse. He also hopes to have the opportunity to share Tainan’s delicacies and abundant produce with our Indian friends.
Director General Gourangalal Das remarked that there are quite several Indian businesses that have chosen to settle in Tainan. For example, AvanStrate Inc., an Indian high-tech company, is located in Annan District. Moreover, many Indian students are studying in Tainan’s universities and the Director General also thanked the Tainan City Government for taking care of them. He further expressed that India and Tainan have many interactions in the fields of industry, education, culture, etc. and that he is especially impressed by Tainan’s agricultural technology and floral industry. He looks forward to visiting the Taiwan International Orchid Exhibition again this year. Finally, the Director General emphasized that the India Taipei Association will continue to serve as a bridge between Tainan and India and welcomed Tainan residents to visit India.
Director General Mr. Gourangalal Das has been stationed in Beijing, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. and has served as the Joint Secretary in Ministry of External Affairs and the Americas Division in the Ministry. Das took office as the Director General of the India Taipei Association in July 2020. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, he has visited Tainan many times as a member of the visiting diplomatic delegation and also attended the opening ceremony of the 2022 Taiwan International Orchid Show.
