Tainan City Launches First Round of Charging Stations As Per “Fast-Charging Station(s) in Every District” Policy, Mayor: New Net-zero Milestone For Tainan

Tainan City Government is actively building an EV-friendly environment as part of its efforts to promote net-zero transformation and sustainable city infrastructure. With an NTD 250 million budget secured from the central government, the city is carrying out the project of setting up charging - including fast-charging piles - stations in every district. The plan aims to set up 90 200 kW fast-charging piles, providing 180 spaces (including two 350 kW super charging piles/four spaces), and 266 111 kW slow-charging piles (532 slow-charging spaces) at 202 public locations across Tainan’s 37 administrative districts. On May 12th, the city government announced that the first batch of stations has been completed in ten administrative districts, including Anping District.

Mayor Huang Wei-che expressed that with the central government’s subsidies, Tainan will gradually build a complete public parking charging service network. Ninety fast-charging piles will be deployed evenly among the districts, allowing every district to have at least one fast-charging pile. We aim to fully cover important daily living service locations and transportation transfer hubs in the 37 districts and realize the city’s policy of making charging stations available in every district. Tainan City is the only city in Taiwan with such a policy in place. The Mayor added that efficiency, convenience, and eco-friendliness were considered when establishing the fast-charging stations. These facilities, which lower the time and range anxiety of EV owners, mark a milestone in Tainan’s journey towards net zero while encouraging drivers to choose this more cost-efficient alternative.

The fast-charging stations are equipped with 200kW charging facilities. A 15-to-25-minute charge at the station enables an EV to run for 200 – 300 km, and the 350kW supercharging stations at the off-street parking lot on Nandao Road next to the city hall provide a charging speed 40% faster than the 200kW stations, according to the Bureau of Transportation Director-General Wang Ming-Te. The ultimate goal is to make charging stations available within a 20-minute drive throughout Tainan City.
