The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) has announced a stepped-up pandemic prevention and control campaign. To minimize the transmission of COVID-19 and other respiratory disease during their peak season in the autumn and winter months, CECC has mandated the wearing of face masks at eight types of public venues from December 1, including healthcare facilities, on public transportation, at retail and wholesale stores, at designated educational facilities, during exhibitions and sports events, during leisure and entertainment programs, at religious facilities, and at locations where people conduct business.
Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che has instructed all government agencies to deploy advanced preparations. In addition to making announcements at the eight aforementioned types of public venues, Mayor Huang also underlined the importance of thorough enforcement: those who refuse to wear a mask will be liable for fines of NT$3,000 to NT$15,000 under Article 37, Paragraph 1, Item 6 of the Communicable Disease Control Act.
Between 1 October to 10 November, there had been 10 imported cases of COVID-19, including 4 foreigners who came to Taiwan to work, 4 foreigners who came to study, and 2 Taiwanese citizens who returned from abroad. All these 10 individuals received confirmed diagnosis during their home-quarantine period, without being in contact with local citizens.
