Tainan City Promotes Tainan 400 Event In Major Global Cities

Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che and the city government team have been actively promoting the Tainan 400 event in numerous international cities, inviting all to appreciate this historical milestone together. Between August 12 and 18 (local times), a promotional video clip of Tainan 400 was shown in New York’s Times Square, the Printemps Haussmann in Paris, and the Gangnam downtown area in Seoul. The video will also appear in Shinjuku, Tokyo, at the end of September. The 15-second campaign showcases significant images of Tainan, including the Confucius Temple, the Wang Yeh Boat-burning Festival, and the Centipede Procession, to present the shining beauty of the ancient traditional capital to the world.

Mayor Huang Wei-che pointed out that the reason behind choosing landmarks of globally-renowned metropolises such as New York, Seoul, Paris, and Tokyo to broadcast the promotional video is that these major cities usually have huge amounts of tourists, allowing the videos to effectively reach not only the local people but also international tourists visiting the area simultaneously. Most importantly, we aim to fully present Tainan’s charm, which comes from the perfect integration of old and new traditions. Hopefully, viewers will be impressed and come visit Tainan, where we are ready to welcome the world!

According to the Tainan City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Tainan 400 promotional video features traditional religious and cultural activities Taiwanese people are familiar with, such as the Centipede Procession and the Wang Yeh Boat-burning Festival, as well as Tainan’s unique historical and cultural assets like the Confucius Temple, Hayashi Department Store, fan-shaped salt fields, the Tree of Life, and the Taiwan Lantern Festival held at Tainan this year. It’s worth mentioning that in 1624, during the Age of Discovery, the Dutch arrived at New York and Tainan; and four centuries later, this video of Tainan is shown in New York, bringing together the historical connection of the two cities once more and bearing witness to the development of eastern and western cultures under globalization.
