The 2025 Asia Pacific Orchid Conference (APOC) and Taiwan International Orchid Show (TIOS) officially opened on Mar. 8 at the Orchid Garden of the MoA Agriculture Technology Park Administration Center in Houbi District. The grand event attracted many visitors from home and abroad. Seventeen foreign representatives from ten countries attended the opening ceremony, including Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, Chile, Canada, Austria, Singapore, the Philippines, Japan, and New Zealand. AIT Kaohsiung Branch Chief Neil Gibson and his family visited the Orchid Show the following day.
Ambassador H.E. Andrea Clare Bowman of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines remarked that this is her fourth Taiwan International Orchid Show. She observed that unlike last year’s exhibition plan which focused on floriculture, this year’s show displayed how orchids flourish in their natural habitats, creating a presentation that is also very pleasing.
Deputy Trade Representative of Singapore Mr. Timothy Seow pointed out that the orchid named Vanda Miss Joaquim is the national flower of Singapore. This is his first Taiwan International Orchid Show experience and he was very impressed by the orchids’ arrangement at the venue, which showcases their original tropical rainforest habitat. Seow also mentioned that the previous edition of the Asia Pacific Orchid Conference was held in Singapore and he is delighted to participate in the event this year in Taiwan.
According to the Tainan City Government, all foreign representatives were impressed by this year’s Taiwan International Orchid Show. To properly showcase the potential of this sector, the exhibition combines high-tech components with vibrant floriculture art. Tainan City, a significant hub of Taiwan’s orchid industry, has set a new standard for the worldwide orchid market by successfully integrating AI and net-zero emission technologies into industrial operations in addition to demonstrating its exceptional cultivation techniques and R&D capabilities.
This is the first time the Asia Pacific Orchid Conference and the Taiwan International Orchid Show were held simultaneously. The 16-day event attracted exhibitors from 34 countries and featured 50 professional forums covering topics including orchid breeding, cultivation, scientific research, and sustainable development of the industry. We aim to foster more international collaborations through the two events and further worldwide orchid trading and technology exchanges.
