Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che announced that the Subsidy Program for Rehabilitation for Children and Adolescents Aged Six to Eighteen will come into effect on June 1, 2025. The program expands the age range of eligible beneficiaries from under 6 years of age to under 18, allowing families in Tainan City with long-term rehabilitation care needs access to long-term and stable treatment support.
According to the Mayor, previous rehabilitation subsidy policies covered only children aged 0 to 6 years old. However, it became clear that children continued to need rehabilitation services beyond this age, and ending subsidies at six placed a financial burden on their families. In response, the Tainan City government launched a new program to support disadvantaged children and adolescents. The program aims to provide stable and continuous treatment resources for children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 through government subsidies. Additionally, the government is working to integrate rehabilitation services into the special education system, aiming to help children develop independence and adapt to social life. The goal is to create a more supportive environment for children and adolescents while encouraging their participation and self-care skills.
Children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 who are registered and currently residing in Tainan City, and who hold a doctor’s certificate of diagnosis indicating the need for continuous rehabilitation treatment, are eligible to apply for the new subsidy program. Certificates of diagnosis issued on or after January 1, 2025, are accepted. Subsidies are available for rehabilitation services not covered by National Health Insurance, including speech, occupational, and physical rehabilitation. The maximum subsidy is NTD 4,000 per person per month, with an increased maximum of NTD 6,000 per person per month for low-income households. Eligible applicants may apply at the district office corresponding to their household registration starting June 1. Please have the necessary documents, such as the doctor’s certificate of diagnosis, ready when applying.
