Tainan City and Philippine Province Aklan Form Sister City Partnership, Starting a New Chapter of Cooperation

Tainan City and the Province of Aklan, the Philippines officially twinned this August. The agreement was signed and sent to each side by Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che and Aklan Governor Jose Enrique M. Miraflores, marking a new milestone in bilateral relations.

Earlier this August, Governor Miraflores led a delegation to meet Mayor Huang in Tainan, where both sides had in-depth exchanges in culture, tourism, and so on. Mayor Huang expressed that Tainan and Aklan share similarities as agricultural and tourism hubs. With the twinning, Tainan will not only promote tourism exchanges and cultural cooperation but will also encourage enterprises to explore investment opportunities, hoping to facilitate city diplomacy through continued interaction.

Governor Miraflores highlighted that Aklan is home to the famous Boracay Island. The province also has two international airports, which provide strong support for trade and tourism. He further revealed plans to take part in the “Tainan International Travel Fair” to introduce Aklan’s unique charm to more Tainan citizens. During his visit to Tainan, the Governor was impressed by the citizens’ discipline and the city government’s efforts, expressing confidence in future cooperation.

Located in the central Philippines, the Province of Aklan has a population of over 600,000 and is one of the country’s leading agricultural and tourism province. Boracay Island, famed for its white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters, draws travelers from around the world. In addition, the annual Ati-Atihan Festival held every January in Aklan blends religious tradition with parades, making it one of the most iconic celebrations and attracting countless visitors.
