First Batch of AI Laptops Arrive on Campus in Taiwan, Tainan Mayor Pledges an Additional NTD 270 Million for the Next Generation’s AI Education

The Tainan City Government is actively building a digital learning environment. After announcing the goal of "Tablets for Every Student” within four years last year, Tainan has this year become the first city in Taiwan to procure 50 high-performance AI laptops and designate 10 key AI education schools. Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che also said that he would invest an additional NTD 270 million to promote AI programming education and generative AI-assisted learning, so as to strengthen campus AI infrastructure and drive teaching model transformation.

Mayor Huang pointed out that amid the global AI trend, the Tainan City Government has already taken action by becoming the first city to introduce AI laptops and PCs, allowing students to access AI learning in the classroom. He also mentioned that both NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and AMD CEO Lisa Su come from Tainan, a city with technology innovation DNA. Through early deployment of AI education, Tainan aims to cultivate a new generation of competitive talents in robotics, drones, and AI. Huang stressed that in the future, AI learning will no longer be limited to computer classrooms but will also be available in regular classrooms, making it more convenient for both teachers and students.

According to the Bureau of Education, the city government’s Digital Tainan: AI Launch action plan for this year includes the four-year Tablets for Every Student, Smart Learning in Every School plan (a total investment of NTD 2.2 billion), as well as an additional NTD 270 million to comprehensively promote generative AI-assisted learning and AI programming education. The Bureau added that the first batch of AI laptops is an important element in the city’s leading technology education. The advantage of this type of equipment is that no data needs to be transferred externally, thereby providing high-level personal data protection and enhanced privacy.
