Tainan City is hosting 156 original works by the world-renowned Czech artist Alphonse Mucha. This is the city’s first Mucha exhibition, running at the National Museum of Modern Art Tainan until September 30. Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che invites everyone to Tainan for a closer look at the authentic masterpieces.
Tainan, a historical capital, is a cultural city that combines traditional values and contemporary creativity, said Mayor Huang, and the city is honored to host the “Alphonse Mucha: The Artist as Visionary” exhibition. This major international cultural exchange event brings new energy to local urban cultural development, gives residents access to world-class masterpieces up close, and showcases the results of Tainan’s cultural development and international art exchanges.
Huang added that he expects to see more young people at the exhibition during summer break. He encouraged them to appreciate the artworks up close and broaden their cultural horizons. The city government is committed to promoting the exhibition and encouraging more people across Taiwan to enjoy Mucha’s classic works and experience the charm of his art, which has lasted for more than a century. Huang also thanked the Ministry of Culture, the Mucha Foundation, and collaborating partners for their joint efforts to make Tainan an important stage for global cultural exchange and to further enhance the city’s cultural energy and international visibility.
The “Alphonse Mucha: The Artist as Visionary” exhibition features six zones: “A Bohemian in Paris”, “Creator of the Mucha Style (Picture Maker for People)”, “Cosmopolitan & The 1900 Paris World Exposition”, “The Mystic (Spiritual Pursuits)”, “The Patriot & The Slav Epic”, and “The Philosopher & Humanitarian”. The exhibition is designed to fully present Mucha’s artistic development and intellectual world, giving visitors a deeper understanding of the humanistic spirit and historical background behind the artist’s creation as they appreciate the original masterpieces.
