Registration for the 2027 Tainan Ancient Capital International Half Marathon, to be held on March 7, 2027, is now open. Entering its 21st edition, the event, themed “Crossing 21” (跨越21), is collaborating with U.S. running brand Saucony for the first time. It has launched pre-race training camps, professional pace teams, student incentive awards, “2+1” group-registration early-bird gifts, the “Run Your 21” GPS Art Challenge, and other related activities. Tainan invites runners from Taiwan and abroad to visit next spring and experience the city’s culture, food, and scenery as they run through the ancient capital.
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che stated that the Tainan Ancient Capital International Half Marathon has become an iconic event in Taiwan. The number of participants exceeded 25,000 this year and is expected to reach a new high next year. The event is not only a sports competition, but also combines elements of city marketing, international exchange, food, and cityscapes, attracting participants from around the world. Huang also thanked Taiwan International Ports Corporation for opening the harbor area for the event.
The Bureau of Sports said that the 21st edition of the Ancient Capital International Half Marathon features a number of new highlights. In addition to launching official race shirts and finisher towels with Saucony for the first time, the Bureau has also designed other commemorative items, including sports bags, hooded towel ponchos, Tainan-edition Taiwanese Gaji bags, sports caps, first half-marathon finisher trophies, and commemorative socks, allowing runners to take home a unique memento of the Ancient Capital International Half Marathon.
The Bureau also announced this edition’s “Run Your 21” GPS Art Challenge, which invites participants to use GPS running routes to create their own “21” patterns in Tainan City and share them on social media. Participants can take part in the Ancient Capital International Half Marathon even before officially taking to the course. Furthermore, there will be a Tainan Night Market Food Poll, in which runners can vote for the Tainan night-market delicacies and popular snacks they would like to see on the course. The selected items will be provided as on-course refreshments, allowing runners to experience Tainan through local delicacies.
This edition will continue its incentive program for junior- and senior-high-school students, with cash awards of up to NT$ 5,000. To support equal access to sports, a 5K Health and Recreation Experience category is also available for runners with disabilities, who may participate free of charge with a NT$ 550 deposit. The finisher medal features a detachable magnetic design, making it both a meaningful and practical keepsake.
