I hope that we keep up the good work, fulfill our responsibilities, and continue to safeguard citizens’ lives and properties. The quality of our services should not be compromised just because holiday is approaching. We should keep enhancing our performance to build the public’s trust in the government.
2. As Lunar New Year is around the corner, relevant bureaus should pay extra attention to food safety, temple and religious activities, and traffic control, with the ultimate goal of offering the best public service to citizens.

Mayor’s Remarks:
(1) Paying tax is a duty share by all citizens. Tax revenue allows the government to function, and public order to be maintained. Improved government performance is sure to increase citizens’ willingness to pay tax.
(2) Improving government efficiency and effectiveness should be the top priority of all colleagues. In addition, since I took office, I have been working on lowering government debt. The last thing I want to see is leaving debt to the next generation and the next mayor having an inadequate budget to carry out policies and provide services.
(3) Expenditure is necessary when the government increases services or provides preferential measures and bonuses to citizens. To safeguard tax justice and maintain the government’s budget, increasing sources of revenue is important. Methods include reviewing tax record registration and taxing those that are unregistered and inspecting city-owned properties. If public goods are occupied or used by private entities, the users should be charged. In this way, the municipal government’s revenue can be increased, and justice is upheld.

Mayor’s Remarks:
(1) Firefighters are the first thing that people think of when facing fires, floods, or other disasters. In recent years, the Fire Department has upheld a good record of reducing casualties in emergency situations. I would like to thank all colleagues of the department for their hard work.
(2) It is commonly said that “one must have good tools in order to do a good job.” With the support from the public, donations from the private sector, and budget of the government, fire-fighting equipment, including fire suits, ambulances, fire alarms for residential use, and 12-lead ECGs, have all been added or upgraded. With the assistance of volunteer firefighters, efficiency of rescues has been increased, making Tainan one of the best-performing cities among the six special municipalities. With such a good foundation, the department should continue with the excellent work, and keep protecting citizens’ lives and property.
