Minutes of Tainan City Government’s 603rd Municipal Administrative Meeting 7/18/2023

Deputy Mayor Yeh’s Remarks:
1.    With the increasing number of Dengue fever cases, we must remain vigilant. I urge all concerned departments to intensify inspection efforts, ensure that businesses and landowners comply with epidemic prevention measures, and impose penalties on those who violate Dengue fever-prevention regulations. Additionally, there has been heavy rainfall recently. To prevent the spread of Dengue fever, concerned departments should promptly remove standing water and raise public awareness about inspecting the environment, emptying, brushing, and cleaning any water containers.
2.    During the summer vacation, Tainan hosts numerous water events. I request the organizing departments and concerned authorities to enhance the promotion of these events. While encouraging participation, please also emphasize epidemic prevention, drug prevention, and fraud-prevention measures. I suggest that the Bureau of Sports and Bureau of Tourism develop more visitor-friendly regulations for water events. This way, domestic and international participants will take notice of Tainan's success in environmental construction.
3.    Although the Central Government has already provided subsidies as compensation for halting the irrigation of phase two crops, the Agriculture Bureau should continue to seek other sources of subsidies and additional funding.
4.    Tainan has long aimed to become a swine flu-free zone. I ask the Animal Health Inspection and Protection Office to continue promoting biosafety at swine farms, enhance active and passive monitoring, and improve communication regarding industry risks. This will bring Tainan closer to achieving its goal of being a swine flu-free zone.
Announcements
1.    The Bureau of Economic Development’s report on promoting and marketing tourism factories in Tainan (refer to written sources for details)
Decision: Approved for reference filing
Mayor’s Remarks:
(1)    Tourism factories are a specialty of Tainan City, which is home to 23 tourism factories that have generated an annual average 550 million in revenue over the past decade. In addition to serving as attractions, Tourism Factories also produce goods, which make them both educational and entertaining.
(2)    Tourism factories offer a diverse range of experiences. I trust that Tainan's tourism factories will continue to be successful while preserving their unique characteristics. To further promote and expand the tourism factory industry in Tainan, the Bureau of Economic Development should continue to provide counseling and encourage more businesses to establish tourism factories.
(3)    The Bureau of Sports’ report on the VII WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup (refer to written sources for details)
Decision: Approved for reference filing
Deputy Mayor Yeh’s Remarks:
(1)    This year (2023) marks the fifth time that the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup will be held in Tainan. Our colleagues are by now very familiar with organizing this event. The world cup will kick off on July 28, with junior players from 12 countries converging in Tainan for this competition. It is imperative that we review all matters before the world cup begins, and that we spare no effort in ensuring the success of this event.
(2)    This year’s world cup will take place at the Asia-Pacific International Baseball Training Centers. Since this is a new venue, I urge the Bureau of Sports to conduct extensive reviews of the site and ensure that all equipment on the baseball field is functional.
(3)    Concerned departments including the Bureau of Transportation, Police Department, Public Works Bureau, and Environmental Protection Bureau should also assist the Bureau of Sports in directing traffic and maintaining the cleanliness of the venue and its surrounding environment. Let’s all work together to ensure that the VII WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup will be a success.
