Minutes of Tainan City Government’s 611st Municipal Administrative Meeting 9/12/2023

Mayor’s Remarks:
1.    Due to the impact of climate change and continuous heavy rainfall, the Dengue fever epidemic has intensified significantly. Therefore, the current consensus is to strengthen larval control and implement environmental inspections while emptying, brushing, and cleaning of any water containers. I urge all departments to continue investing substantial manpower and resources into larval control efforts. I sincerely thank all council members for their active participation and oversight.
2.    The continuous heavy rainfall has caused damage to roads and public infrastructure, resulting in unclear road markings. I ask all district offices to proactively assess and identify these damages and collaborate closely with the Bureau of Transportation, Public Works Bureau, and the Water Resources Bureau to expedite repairs. The municipal government will allocate disaster preparedness funds to accelerate restoration and repair work. During the repair process, concerned departments should prioritize public safety to prevent unnecessary accidents.
3.    I ask the Water Resources Bureau to ensure that construction work for the rainwater box culvert construction project at the T-junction on Detang Road in Rende District is completed on schedule and to a high standard of quality.
Announcements
1.    The Public Works Bureau’s report on the construction progress of Tainan Asia-Pacific International Baseball Stadiums and Training Centers (refer to written sources for details)
Decision: Approved for reference filing
Mayor’s Remarks:
(1)    The Asia-Pacific International Baseball Stadiums and Training Centers were initially planned during Vice President Lai's tenure as mayor. The construction of the little league stadium commenced during former Acting Mayor Lee's term, while the professional stadium construction began during my mayoral term. Currently, three stadiums and three practice fields have been completed, and the professional stadium is set to be completed next year. Looking ahead, the Asia-Pacific International Baseball Stadiums and Training Centers will undergo further enhancements, which is sure to invigorate the sport of baseball not only in Tainan but also nationwide. I extend my appreciation to the Public Works Bureau for its dedicated efforts.
(2)    Exceptional facilities demand robust supporting infrastructure, particularly in terms of seamless public transportation connections, convenient parking, and pedestrian access within the stadiums. I encourage concerned departments to strengthen optimization efforts.
2.    The Cultural Affairs Bureau’s report on the Fort Zeelandia Museum Expansion Opening Event (refer to written sources for details)
Decision: Approved for reference filing
Mayor’s Remarks:
(1)    Next year (2024) marks Tainan’s 400th anniversary. Each department will showcase the historical footsteps of our ancestors across different eras within their respective scopes of work. The Cultural Affairs Bureau is spearheading the planning efforts. The Fort Zeelandia Museum Expansion Opening Event is scheduled for September 23, marking the commencement of the 100-day countdown to 2024. I extend a warm invitation to all to partake in this momentous occasion.
(2)    Tainan's 400th anniversary stands as a historic milestone. In addition to commemorating the past, we must seize the present and lay the foundation for the future. We look forward to the series of events during Tainan's 400th anniversary offering fresh experiences and inspiring insights into future development for young individuals, residents, and citizens from all over the country. I am deeply appreciative of the Cultural Affairs Bureau's tireless efforts.
