Minutes of Tainan City Government’s 679th Municipal Administrative Meeting 12/31/2024

Major’s Remarks:
1. Today (31st) marks not only the final day of 2024 but also the last day of Tainan’s 400th milestone year. This year, the city proudly recorded zero local cases of dengue fever—a testament to the concerted efforts of all municipal bureaus and departments, ensuring that we navigated the year safely and peacefully. We also faced the impact of typhoons and successfully hosted major events, such as the Taiwan Lantern Festival in Tainan, the Creative Expo Taiwan, and the Taiwan Design Expo. This period was characterized by challenges, moments of joy, and fruitful achievements, bringing immense happiness to our citizens and showcasing the exceptional service of our municipal team. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their dedication and hard work, and I believe that our residents can perceive the efforts of the city government team.
2. The Public Works Bureau is urged to oversee the contractor actively to ensure that the "Minsheng Bridge Reconstruction Project on South Route 171 in Zuozhen District" is completed according to schedule.
Reports
1. The Sports Bureau submitted a report on the "2025 National Middle School Athletic Games" (refer to written sources for details).
Resolution: Approved for reference filing.
Mayor’s Comments:
(1) Since its upgrade from the Sports Department, the Sports Bureau has taken on numerous large-scale responsibilities, including hosting the National Games last October and preparing for the National Middle School Athletic Games next year. Following that, the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games will be hosted by Chang Jung Christian University. The Tainan City Government and Chang Jung Christian University are working closely together, supporting each other through the optimization of venues and equipment to achieve the best possible outcomes.
(2) Tainan City has not hosted the National Middle School Athletic Games in 22 years. During the event period, a large influx of athletes, coaches, parents, and their relatives and friends is expected to come to Tainan, significantly boosting the visibility of both the competition and the city. Hosting large-scale sports events provides several key benefits. First, the central government will allocate funds, and the city government will raise additional resources to upgrade venues and equipment, demonstrating the city's progress to athletes and related personnel. Second, it facilitates the valuable transfer of experience in organizing major events. Third, it drives the continuous improvement of athletes and coaches. This year, Tainan City achieved a historic milestone by winning a record number of medals at the National Middle School Athletic Games. We hope that all bureaus and departments will fully support the Sports Bureau in successfully hosting the "2025 National Middle School Athletic Games." This is a mission where success is the only acceptable outcome, leaving no room for failure. Let us work together to achieve it.
2. The Culture Affairs Bureau presented a report on the "2025 Yuejin Lantern Festival and Xinying Shimmer Festival" (refer to written sources for details).
Resolution: Approved for reference filing.
Mayor’s Comments:
(1) The "Xinying Shimmer Festival," "Longci Light Festival," and "Yuejin Art Museum" are initiatives launched in the greater Xinying District during my tenure, all of which have gained considerable recognition both nationally and locally. From the end of this year to early spring next year, the area north of the Zengwen River will host numerous high-quality activities. Additionally, there will be many lantern festival events within the city, brimming with creativity and fun, ensuring that visitors and residents in Tainan experience excitement and novelty, never feeling bored or uninspired.
(2) The rich content of these activities requires everyone to collaborate in the creation and planning. We sincerely thank the outstanding curators and teachers for their participation. By building on the success of the "Taiwan Lantern Festival in Tainan," we look forward to a wonderful and promising start to next spring.
