Minutes of Tainan City Government’s 500th Municipal Administrative Meeting 7/19/2021

Announcements
1.    The Bureau of Education’s report on replacing playground equipment in schools (refer to written sources for details)
Decision: Approved for reference filing
(1)     Outdated playground equipment should be replaced while schools are closed during the pandemic. Traditional playground equipment that fulfills safety standards should be redesigned with special features. Playground equipment that does not meet safety standards but can if improved should undergo improvements immediately. Equipment that fails to meet safety standards and is beyond repair should be replaced. Abandoned equipment should also be handled with care so as to safeguard the environment and reduce municipal expenditure. Playground equipment in parks overseen by the Public Works Bureau should be handled with the same set of principles.
(2)     The Bureau of Education has secured subsidies from the central government. Please ensure that the subsidies are used in-full and effectively. We look forward to the establishment of safe and unique school playground equipment for schoolchildren. Projects that may carry over into September should be conducted nonetheless.

2.    The Public Works Bureau’s report on improving children’s playgrounds in public parks (refer to written sources for details)
Decision: Approved for reference filing
The municipal government promotes the widespread establishment of playground facilities, followed by subsequent improvements. Most playground equipment in parks prioritize safety to prevent children from becoming injured or having serious accidents during playtime. Specialty parks are quite expensive to build. Despite the municipal government’s austerity measures, ten specialty parks have been completed to date, and another seven are in the making. That being said, the establishment of specialty parks depends on the municipal government’s financial situation. Improvements to the quality and playability of playground equipment in parks will be improved gradually, by level, and by district. Of course, the highest safety standards will be implemented.
