Minutes of Tainan City Government’s 527th Municipal Administrative Meeting 1/25/2022

Mayor’s remarks:
1.    Cases of local transmission have been reported in Tainan. Epidemic prevention, disaster prevention, crime prevention, and traffic control are all of great importance. I implore everyone to place an emphasis on work in these areas during Lunar New Year, and I thank you for sacrificing your time for the safety and health of Tainan’s residents.
2.    The Public Works Bureau’s “Road Qualify Improvement Plan (Ministry of the Interior) 2.0—Road Improvement Construction Plan for Section 1, Jhongshan Road, Guanmaio District” is set to undergo item reductions and a budget expansion. I ask colleagues of the Public Works Bureau to discuss improvement plans with Secretary-general Ciou. The budget for the Public Works Bureau’s “Expansion Plan for City Highway 172 from Ansiliao section to Baihe District” totals at NTD $1.1 billion, none of which is subsidized by the Central Government. The Public Works Bureau should discuss this with Deputy Mayor Tai and determine how to secure funding from the Central Government.
Announcements
1.    The Bureau of Transportation’s report on improving traffic safety in Tainan City (refer to written sources for details)
Decision: Approved for reference filing
Mayor’s remarks:
Each month, the municipal government convenes a traffic safety meeting with the objective of effectively improving traffic safety. Traffic safety and crime prevention are two areas that residents care about greatly. I thank the Bureau of Transportation for its report, and I anticipate that leveraging technology in maintaining traffic safety will enhance the effectiveness of the tools and manpower that we have invested. Also, I urge the Bureau of Transportation to address the root cause of the problem to solve traffic problems that have long plagued the city. Our goal should be to make improvements on both a law enforcement and infrastructure level.
2.    The Police Department’s report on DUI prevention work (refer to written sources for details)
Decision: Approved for reference filing
Mayor’s remarks:
Drunk driving is detested behavior. The Legislative Yuan has just passed new laws that govern driving under the influence. We must be sure to apply these new laws and enhance enforcement. It is particularly important to increase traffic stops and maintain the safety of residents during this time of the year. I thank all municipal employees who have sacrificed time with their families to safeguard resident health and safety. I ask the Police Department to dispatch supporting personnel in addition to police officers, thereby ensuring that residents are protected to the best of our ability.
