Minutes of Tainan City Government’s 677th Municipal Administrative Meeting 12/17/2024

Major’s Remarks:
1. As the year comes to a close, the city government team has delivered remarkable results, and colleagues across all bureaus and departments are encouraged to maintain their efforts. Recently, the TV program "Night Market King" has gained immense popularity, featuring the performances of many night market businesses and generating widespread buzz. This excitement has sparked renewed interest in night markets, creating significant business opportunities and boosting the reputation of well-known vendors. To seize this momentum, the Economic Development Bureau and the Tourism and Travel Bureau are urged to explore strategies to support major night markets, traditional markets, and regular markets through comprehensive marketing efforts.
2. All bureaus and departments should adopt a comprehensive strategic approach when engaging in international collaborations or conducting promotional activities abroad. For instance, when the Agriculture Bureau conducts food exhibitions overseas, the Tourism and Travel Bureau and the Department of Information and International Relations should support these efforts by promoting Tainan and visiting sister cities. Such integrated and collaborative efforts can amplify the impact of overseas promotions. As there will be no major historical milestones, such as Tainan’s 400th anniversary, next year, all bureaus and departments are urged to develop well-structured city marketing plans.
3. For the "Yujing Agricultural Products Processing and Cold Chain Logistics Center" and the "Jiangjun Aquatic Products Processing and Supply Chain Logistics Center," the Agriculture Bureau is requested to adhere strictly to the established standards. Recently, milkfish production has been abundant, and the Agriculture Bureau should promptly freeze and store fish that meet the size specifications. For fish that exceed the specifications, the Bureau should leverage various marketing channels to promote them and help stabilize market prices.
Reports
1. The Indigenous Peoples Commission presented a report on the "Indigenous Talent Cultivation Plan – Tribal University, Language Promotion, and Industry Development" (refer to written sources for details).
Resolution: Approved for reference filing.
Mayor’s Comments:
(1) Since its establishment, the Indigenous Peoples Commission has been dedicated to cultivating industrial and cultural talents. Initiatives, such as Indigenous youth summer camps, the teaching and promotion of ethnic languages, and the development of arts and cultural activities, have yielded excellent results. Tainan City’s ethnic language teacher training plan is structured into three stages: "Seedling Development," "Eagle Cultivation," and "Soaring Heights." The plan aims to create an environment for the lifelong learning of ethnic languages, starting in early childhood, among Indigenous people.
(2) The "Tabe Cahamu Indigenous District," set to open next year, will serve as a vital hub for promoting Tainan City's Indigenous industries. Thirteen businesses, nurtured through the efforts of the city’s Indigenous Peoples Commission, are slated to establish operations in the venue. It is anticipated that these enterprises will achieve independent operation and further enhance the rich cultural heritage of Indigenous peoples. The Indigenous Peoples Commission is expected to continue its efforts in talent cultivation, further strengthening the city's pool of Indigenous professionals. These initiatives aim to drive economic and industrial development, enabling the Indigenous population to live and work in peace and fulfillment within the city.
2. The Department of Information and International Relations presented a report titled "Compilation of Activities Spanning the Year-End and New Year Period: December 2024 to January 2025" (refer to written sources for details).
Resolution: Approved for reference filing.
Mayor’s Comments:
(1) In recent years, Tainan City’s series of Christmas and New Year’s Eve events has not only earned widespread recognition from citizens but also established itself as a distinctive brand in Taiwan. While other counties and cities spend several times more on similar events, the Tainan City Government team has successfully organized impressive activities within a limited budget, all while balancing financial discipline and fiscal health. We extend our gratitude to the relevant bureaus and departments for their dedicated efforts.
(2) We look forward to the successful conclusion of this year’s (2024) Tainan 400 series of events. Relevant bureaus and departments are requested to ensure smooth traffic management, public security, and environmental cleanliness as we come together to welcome the new year. Let us join forces to provide citizens with a joyful New Year’s Eve celebration.
