To prevent local transmission of COVID-19, all citizens of Tainan City must wear face masks in the eight following types of venues starting from August 17th

In response to the global pandemic outbreak of the Severe Pneumonia with Novel Pathogens (COVID-19), Tainan City has proposed measures to strengthen our community epidemic prevention efforts, stipulating that from August 17th all people must wear face masks when visiting or participating in events at the following designated places and venues:

1. Medical and Health Care Institutions: Hospitals and clinics, long-term care institutions, social welfare (child care) institutions.

2. Public Transportation: Public transportation stations and on buses/trains.

3. Marketplaces: Tourist factories, department stores, and wholesale stores.

4. Education and Learning Venues: Libraries, cram schools, and study centers.

5. Performance, Exhibition and Competition Venues: Indoor venues for arts and cultural activities.

6. Religious places: Religious gatherings and pilgrimage processions.

7. Entertainment venues: Venues of the eight major adult businesses and movie theaters.

8. Large-scale activities: Group tourism activities and events that take part on public roads.

9. Other venues: Sites and locations designated by the Central Epidemic Command Center or the Public Health Bureau.

The persons in charge, managers or operators of the above-mentioned venues or events shall post this mast-wearing announcement at easily-visible spots, and shall thoroughly implement these preventive and control measures; those who refuse to cooperate and do not wear masks after being reminded or advised could be rejected and kept out from these sites.

The Public Health Bureau reminds that all persons in charge, managers or operators of these designated places or activities should fully comply with relevant epidemic prevention measures. Those who fail to improve after being reminded and advised by the city’s governing agency or enforcement inspectors will be reported; these cases will be sent to the Public Health Bureau for a fine ranging from NT$3,000 to NT$15,000 according to the Communicable Disease Control Act.

Meanwhile, Tainan’s Transportation Bureau also put out a corresponding requirement: starting from August 17th, all individuals taking Tainan City Buses or taxis, and those at bus transit stations must wear face masks at all time. Public campaigns also help station workers and drivers to fully understand this requirement. To avoid any breaches in epidemic prevention and control, drivers can refuse to take on passengers who refuse to wear masks, while constantly reminding passengers to carry extra masks.
