Effective from September 1 (based on flight arrival time), 3+4 quarantine policy to remain in place for arrivals; “one person per room” rule to be adopted during four days of self-initiated epidemic prevention

The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that, effective from September 1, mandatory quarantine for arrivals will remain to be three days of quarantine and four days of self-initiated epidemic prevention (based on flight arrival time). Furthermore, the “one person per room” rule will be adopted for the four-day period of self-initiated epidemic prevention. All arriving persons must strictly observe the testing measures, as well as the quarantine and self-initiated epidemic prevention rules. Those violating related rules are subject to penalties between NT$10,000 and NT$150,000 according to Articles 58 and 69 of the Communicable Disease Control Act.

According to CECC, during the three-day quarantine period, the current regulation allows for quarantining at home or a residence of a friend or family member, with the “one person per room” rule being followed, or staying at a quarantine hotel. As for the four-day self-initiated epidemic prevention period, an arriving visitor may undergo self-initiated epidemic prevention at his or her home or a residence of his friend or family that meets the “one person per room” rule. This rule means that a room, used to undergo self-initiated epidemic prevention, in principle, should have a separate bathroom. An arrival may not stay at a regular hotel. After completing the three-day quarantine, an arrival can go to a place that meets the “one person per room” rule to undergo self-initiated epidemic prevention without applying with his or her local government to change his or her place of lodging during the self-initiated epidemic prevention period.

During the self-initiated prevention period, arrivals must avoid outings unless necessary. A negative result from an at-home rapid test taken within two days should be presented if an arrival needs to go out to work or buy daily necessities. Masks must be worn at all times when outside and social distancing must be maintained. An arrival fulfilling business contractual obligations may go to work, conduct site visits, give a speech, or take part in meetings, provided that a mask must be worn at all times when outside and social distancing must be maintained. Masks must be worn at all times and social distancing must be maintained at work. Masks can be temporarily removed when dining and should be put on after finishing dining. Avoid visiting crowded venues or being in contact with nonspecific persons. An arrival fulfilling business contractual obligations may dine alone or with specific persons in a separate space in a restaurant provided that table dividers must be installed or social distancing must be maintained. Non-urgent medical services or examinations should be postponed.
