Minutes of Tainan City Government’s 491st Municipal Administrative Meeting Mayor’s remarks 5/18/2021

Mayor’s Remarks:
1.    The pandemic has worsened in Taiwan recently. I urge everyone to mask-up, wash your hands, and maintain social distancing. All departments should mobilize volunteers to be stationed at marketplaces, night markets, and parks to ensure that the public is following disease prevention measures. Taiwan is small, and you can reach any place within one day. As a result, many people travel between Northern and Southern Taiwan. People visit Tainan for tourism or for familial reasons; thus, I urge citizens to have a heightened awareness for disease prevention. Should you have family members, relatives, or friends who are visiting from outside of Tainan, please be sure to adhere to necessary disease prevention measures. If you or anyone you know exhibit symptoms including fever, loss of taste or smell, or respiratory symptoms, please seek medical attention immediately and inform doctors about these symptoms. Medical personnel will arrange for tests or treatment. By doing so, we can keep ourselves, our family members, and our friends safe. I am confident that everyone will abide by these guidelines. These two weeks are key. Concerned departments should expedite the preparation and organization of quarantine hotels, centralized quarantine stations, and COVID-19 testing stations, thereby maintaining the medical capacity for handling potential and confirmed COVID-19 cases. Together, we will weather this storm.
2.    Guanmiao District and Longci District are major producers of green bamboo shoots; however, they are not included in the areas subsidized for this wave of natural disasters. I ask that concerned bureau look into this issue.
3.    Although mango-producing areas in Pingtung have been offered natural disaster relief and low interest rate loans, their output is normal at the moment. Thus, we must ramp up marketing for locally grown mangoes to prevent prices from crashing. Although more than 70% of pineapples have been harvested, their prices remain high. Bureaus that have put in orders for pineapples can consider swapping these orders for mangos.
