Mayor’s Remarks:
1. Children are treasures to their parents and pillars of national development. In light of the recent alleged drugging case at a preschool, the municipal government must pay particular attention to bullying and food safety, in addition to focusing on the prevention of sexual harassment and sexual assault. Our focus should be on preschool children as well as students in elementary school, junior high school, and high school. The Bureau of Education, Bureau of Social Affairs, and Public Health Bureau have jointly proposed three mechanisms and ten programs to enhance the protection of children, and the municipal government will strictly abide by regulations for the education and care of children.
2. The monsoon season has arrived. Concerned departments should simultaneously focus on preventing droughts and combating floods. The heavy rainfall over the past couple of days led to flooding in underpasses. Thankfully, no cars were trapped. I appreciate the fast response of departments that oversee transportation and roads. In addition to reducing traffic-related costs, preemptively sealing off roads that are likely to flood also minimizes casualties.
3. Since 2019, no domestic cases of Dengue fever have been reported in Tainan City. Today (13th), the first Dengue fever case in the nation this year was reported. I ask departments responsible for health, the environment, and civil affairs to handle relevant matters with the utmost caution. Since the source of this case has yet to be found, the best we can do now is to implement large-scale disinfecting operations and eliminate vectors. However, the recent rainfall has resulted in water accumulating in tree holes, potholes, and containers, which makes Dengue fever prevention quite challenging. I urge concerned departments to do their best in disinfecting the environment and preventing mosquito vectors from breeding.
4. The Public Works Bureau must ensure that the construction project for improving footpaths and the environment in Dongshan Village, Dongshan District, is completed on schedule and that quality standards are met.
