Minutes of Tainan City Government’s 550th Municipal Administrative Meeting 7/12/2022

Mayor’s remarks:
The freezer installation project at Sinhua Fruit and Vegetable market involves a large amount of electric equipment. Concerned departments should pay attention to whether the price of such equipment rises at the same rate as construction material. I ask the Public Works Bureau to propose a tender and begin notifying potential vendors, thereby ensuring that the market can be opened according to schedule.
Announcements
1.    The Transportation Bureau’s report on the progress of expanding e-bus operations in Tainan and future plans (refer to written sources for details)
Decision: Approved for reference filing
Deputy Mayor Chao’s remarks:
(1)     I would like to thank the Transportation Bureau for its report. Tainan's e-bus operations have grown from 12% to 36%. With the Transportation Bureau's efforts, the passenger satisfaction rate has also increased. I ask the Economic Development Bureau to assist power storage, battery, and e-vehicle vendors in the future, thereby elevating the incentive for businesses to invest in Tainan's e-bus system. Since Tainan began developing a smart transportation system, the Transportation Bureau has poured a lot of work into improving smart transportation systems. The incorporation of AI technology, such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and blind spot warning systems, are sure to improve smart transpiration. I ask the Research, Development and Evaluation Commission to provide assistance in this matter.
(2)     To reach our goal of net zero emissions by 2050, the Environmental Protection Bureau has focused its efforts on implementing carbon reduction measures. I believe that businesses in the e-transportation industry will have an interest in the carbon rights transactions that the Environmental Protection Bureau mentioned in its report. The Transportation Bureau should make preparations in advance.
2.    The Economic Development Bureau’s report on conserving energy during the summer (refer to written sources for details)
Decision: Approved for reference filing
Mayor’s remarks:
The report indicates that all departments have been following energy conservation measures. Our excellent work has even been recognized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Our electricity usage in 2021 was 5.7% higher than that of 2020. However, this is a reflection of Tainan's rapid growth in both industry and urban development. I anticipate that Tainan's industry sector will follow Tainan's latest energy policies and ramp up the installation of PV and green equipment. By doing so, businesses that used to consume a large amount of energy will also generate green energy. In terms of day-to-day measures, I believe that we need to further inform the public about how to develop green consumption habits, in addition to following traditional energy conservation measures. We should also encourage small businesses to conserve energy. Compared to the rest of the world, Taiwan has relatively low power prices and a high rate of power consumption. I encourage everyone to start small and make energy consumption a part of life. Together, let's consume less energy and strive toward becoming even more sustainable.
